RAM
E.g adding some more RAM to your computer to increase performance or speed
While browsing the Clubroom you have probably seen Tim or I talking about RAM. Sometimes we suggest adding RAM to your computer to make it run faster, or adding it so you can run more programs. Adding RAM to your PC is a great way to increase performance, and can solve a few problems!
But what is RAM? RAM stands for “Random Access Memory”. You don’t really need to know that because no one will ever ask you, but it’s interesting all the same! Every time you open a program, it gets loaded from the hard drive into the RAM. This is because reading data from the RAM is much faster than reading data from the hard drive. If the computer wanted to read it from the hard drive, it would be so slow, because the hard drive has quite a lot of information on it. It would take longer to find the right files and such!
The more RAM your computer has, the more data can be loaded from the hard drive into the RAM, which is what speeds up your computer. Basically, it makes programs run quicker and stops them from crashing.
To check how much RAM you have, RIGHT click on “My Computer” or “Computer”, and select Proterties. It should tell you there!
Hope you found that interesting!
